Set of Four Antique Chairs With Original Antique Leather Seats

Set of four antique chairs with original leather seats. These four chairs are a good size and deep seated. They are very well made, with H frame stretchers for strength. Interestingly they are constructed with corner stretches at the joints rather than blocks and tennon joints instead of dowels. This pre-Victorian construction method, together with the shape of the back leg, makes us think that they may be by Howard and Sons. Regardless of the maker, they are constructed using expensive construction methods. They are a good cut of oak, solid and dense grained with lots of mudullary rays. Shown here pre-restoration, the colour will be very good once they have been polished with bees wax. They do need to be re webbed which can be done while preserving the original buttoned antique leather.

English circa 1880 £1,800
Price to include restoration

Four Comfortable Antique Dining Chairs

Set of four comfortable Victorian dining chairs with upholstered seat and back. These are sold as seen but they do seem to be very solid. Change the fabric, perhaps new webbing, wax the timber and they will be given a whole new lease of life.
