Set of 10 Dining Chairs by Gillow of Lancaster and London

Very fine set of ten antique dining chairs firmly attributed to Gillow of Lancaster and London. This is a very fine set of chairs, they are well made, crisply carved and they are a good scale. The design is straight from the Gillow design book with both the carved detail and the overall form being typical of designs by Gillow, most of which are actually earlier than they look.

Early Nineteenth Century Regency Mahogany Set Of Nine Antique Dining Chairs

Set of 9 early 19th century Regency mahogany antique dining chairs. This set of chairs can be thought of as a set of eight chairs with one extra or a set of nine. If ten chairs are required then a similar carver can be found or an identical one can be made in our own workshops at additional cost. Ask for a quote if required. This set of chairs have some very nice Regency specific features such as sabre legs which are reeded on the front and upper surfaces. The back rest has a panel of flame mahogany and gadrooning to the top edge. The back rail has the classic rope twist which alludes to the recent success of the British Navy at the battle of the Nile and the subsequent definitive defeat by the British Army of Napoleon at Waterloo. These chairs are made of good timber, they are precisely carved and it is easy to change the fabric on the drop in seats. The sabre legs are a nice feature which echo the Klismos chair and similar designs found in images found at the excavations of the time in Italy and Greece.

Set of Ten Antique Victorian Dining Chairs

Set of ten Victorian mahogany asthetic movement dining chairs, these chairs could well be made of dense grained solid walnut rather than mahogany, it is hard to tell. These chairs are a very generous shape and are comfortable as a result. The back splat and rail are supportive and curved in the right way. These chairs stand on cabriole legs and have precise carving to the back splat. They are well made and date from one of the finest periods of furniture manufacturing. The price includes restoration but not the cost of fabric itself.
