Early 18th Century Oak Antique Mule Chest Coffer

Early 18th century oak mule chest. The mule chest is a coffer at the top with drawers underneath. This mule chest has developed a lovely deep colour and patina over its long life and it is good that the grain of the timber is visible. A lot of furniture of this period has a layed of dirt that hides the timber itself and makes the whole piece look very dark, but not this one! There are some old repairs and it has not been restored yet, but this is a wonderfully tactile as well as a useful piece of furniture.

English circa 1710 £580

There are four panels on the front and three on the top, the front panels are decorated with a diamond shape and the front of the highest cross member has carved scroll decoration. There is an old lock, but no key. Let us know if you want us to try and make a key as it is sometimes possible. The colour and patina of this coffer is very good at the moment and will be even better when it has been waxed in our workshops.
